notes

These are notes from an ongoing inquiry into how people and technology relate to each other — and into what design can do when that relationship is still being formed.

They are not finished positions.
They are thinking made visible, offered in the spirit in which the rest of this site is offered: as an open invitation to the conversation.

We are in a period when the relationship between people and technology is still being shaped — by AI, by connected systems, by platforms that are becoming participants in daily life before anyone has asked what kind of participants they should be.

Digital products and social possibilities

Digital products and social possibilities

A connected product is not a closed loop.

It is a beginning — an open structure, always-on, receiving signals from a world that is more complex and relational than any interaction pattern designed to use it.

The task is one layer of what is possible. Beneath it: the social situation the product is embedded in. The relations already present. The human goals operating underneath the stated request. The surplus that current design has not accessed.

Our design process begins with a question that most product development skips: what is already here, in this situation, that the current behavioral script is not using?

The answer is always more than expected. The answer is the work.

Digital products are the beginning of sets of possibilities more than closed task loops.

Our design process sees networked, adaptive, and always-on products as an open structure, engaging in a search for possibilities.

Digital products start to participate in unfolding techno-social situations, where every person and thing is always in a dynamic process of emerging and becoming, always open to new possibilities and to what’s next.

We want intentionally expand ways how people and technology co-participate in experience.

Collaborative openness inherent to each moment of resonant experience is an opportunity to start putting this world back together in equitable and resilient ways.

k_o studio approach investigates how objects and systems can act as disarming instigators of embodied social values and relationships.
